Classic Breakfast Guy

I am a classic American breakfast person. I love 2 eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns in the morning. In Detroit, we are blessed with hundreds of small diners we affectionately call “Coney Islands” and virtually all of them serve traditional breakfast plates.

Cooking Methods

There are 3 distinct cooking methods for southern hash browns: baking, frying, and deep frying. Each method has advantages and, moreover, each produces unique texture & taste. By far, my favorite is frying, although I chose to highlight a deep fry method in the recipe above.

Quick Note about Malt Vinegar

I enjoy the taste of malt vinegar in my potato recipes. I claim it is a necessary ingredient but I realize many people find the flavor of malt vinegar to be over-powering, especially at breakfast. Skip this ingredient if it does not appeal to you.
