Preparation Steps
- Preheat oven to 425°F.
- Spray an 11 x 7-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, combine sliced potatoes, melted butter, salt, garlic powder, and pepper.
- Arrange half of the potato slices in the baking dish; sprinkle half of the cheese over the potatoes.
- Repeat with remaining potato slices and cheese.
- In a small saucepan, bring milk, thyme, bay leaf, and nutmeg to a boil; remove bay leaf and pour the mixture over the potatoes.
- Top with remaining cheese and bake uncovered for 45 to 50 minutes, until potatoes are tender and the top is golden.
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can add a dash of paprika or use full-fat cheese and milk.
