Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 0.75 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.75 cup light brown sugar
  • 0.75 cup water
  • 0.75 cup ketchup
  • 0.333 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch

Method

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, and salt in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly using your hands.
  3. Shape the mixture into 15 evenly-sized meatballs and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake the meatballs for 20 minutes or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
  5. While the meatballs are baking, prepare the sauce by combining sugar, water, ketchup, vinegar, and soy sauce in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir for about 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Mix cornstarch with a small amount of water to create a slurry. Add to the simmering sauce and cook until the sauce thickens further.
  7. Toss the baked meatballs with the sauce in a large bowl to coat evenly.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with your choice of herbs if desired.
