  • 9 medium tomatillos
  • 2 pieces jalapeƱos or serrano chiles seeds removed for less heat
  • 0.5 cup cilantro leaves
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 0.5 medium white or yellow onion coarsely chopped
  • 1 large avocado
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice about 1/2 lime
  • to taste salt

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Add the tomatillos, jalapeƱos or serrano chiles, cilantro, garlic, and onion to a food processor or blender and pulse until chunky but not pureed.
  2. Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, score the flesh lightly, and scoop into the processor.
  3. Add lime juice and salt, then stir by hand to combine, keeping the avocado chunky.
  4. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed, then serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 2 days.

Notes

This salsa is perfect for Cinco de Mayo or a summer party. Enjoy it with chips or as a topping for tacos.
